Carlyle Avenue retail store designed by Studio MUKA, 2024. We were approached by a boutique homewares company to design their new retail location in Santa Monica. The inviting space resembles the feeling of walking into a friend’s home, encouraging visitors to slow down, tinker with objects, pick up a book, and discover all that the store has to offer. Our design integrated merchandise bays along the perimeter of the store for curating objects while outfitting the lower storage compartments with café curtains to bring a soft touch to the atmosphere, making it feel more like home. Collaborating closely with the store’s staff, we created a custom table that alternates seasonally featuring storage behind cabinet doors and modular units for versatile merchandise displays.
A mixture of solid Douglas Fir wood and plywood is featured prominently, paired with off-white laminate and stainless steel elements. Custom aluminum hammered Repoussage stools by Studio MUKA in Tibor fabric add cool silver and limoncello yellow to the space. The design is completed with iconic lighting by Ingo Maurer and Le Corbusier.
